Description Riparian Forest Buffers are linear wooded areas along rivers and streams that help filter
nutrients, sediments and other pollutants from runoff as well as remove
nutrients from groundwater. In addition to their ability to improved water
quality, their value at enhancing terrestrial and aquatic habitat make forest buffers an important BMP for natural resources managers.
Funding Source
Cost-Share funds are available for the implementation of riparian forest buffers
through the Maryland Agricultural Water Quality Cost-Share (MACS) program and
USDA’s Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP).
