CHIEF, MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM (0077)

The following is a Class Description.  A Class Description provides information about the Nature of Work, Examples of Work and General Requirements for a classification in the Management Service or a classification in the Skilled or Professional Service in which all positions have been designated Special Appointments.  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities; Minimum Education and Experience Requirements; Special Requirements; and recruitment and testing procedures are set by the using agency.

 

I.          NATURE OF WORK:

This is professional mosquito control work at the managerial level.  The Chief, Mosquito Control is responsible for implementing, planning, directing and coordinating both the administrative and technical phases of a Statewide mosquito control program including ground and air spray operations and permanent control activities.  This employee also serves as the Department's expert on mosquito control.

An employee in this class works under the administrative direction of an Assistant Secretary and confers with the Assistant Secretary on matters of policy and program objectives.  Work effectiveness is determined through conferences and evaluation of program results.  The employee supervises a staff of entomologists, engineers, mosquito control supervisors, mechanics, motor equipment operators, clerical employees and seasonal workers.

 

II.         EXAMPLES OF WORK:     (Examples are illustrative only)

Directs and coordinates the work of the Department of Agriculture's Mosquito Control Section;

Develops section operating rules and procedures in conformance with applicable laws and regulations and Departmental policies;

Provides technical guidance and prepares budgets for State and County Mosquito Control Programs;

Evaluates the effectiveness of program conducted by subordinates throughout State;

Directs the evaluation of new methods, chemicals and equipment used in control programs and the evaluation of control techniques under field conditions;

Directs investigation of mosquito transmitted disease and formulates coordinated control measures for entire State;

Performs other related duties.
