Reportable Diseases in Maryland
Veterinarians must report any of the diseases noted below to the State Veterinarian within 48 hours of first knowledge of disease.
To report a disease or suspected reportable disease:

Please be prepared to provide a description of the animal, the name and address of the owner or person in charge of the animal, location of animal, and number of animals potentially exposed.

*Reportable to State Animal Health Officials Only
** Equine Neurologic Syndrome: horses with central neurologic signs in the absence of noninfectious cause or where infectious cause is suspected or cannot be ruled out. Collect nasal swab, red top and purple top tubes.
All others should be reported to State and Federal Animal Health Officials.
State law requires that "any person practicing veterinary medicine in the State shall report immediately to the Secretary any contagious or infectious disease among livestock or poultry of which he has knowledge." ( §3-104 of the Annotated Code of Maryland)
